Common Core Algebra 2, Unit 3: Rational Expressions
The five videos in the flipped classroom Common Core Algebra 2, Unit 3 series take up rational expressions. The first video demonstrates how to find values that are excluded from the domain of rational expressions. Viewers then see how to simplify rational expressions by factoring the numerator and denominator and then canceling like factors. The second installment focuses on multiplying and dividing rational expressions. Scholars learn how to perform these operations as well as how to interpret and simplify complex fractions. Next, young mathematicians first review how to add and subtract rational numbers. They then learn how to apply the same reasoning to add and subtract rational expressions by first rewriting each expression using a common denominator. Moving on, pupils watch a video to learn about solving rational equations. They consider two methods: rewriting the expressions using a common denominator and multiplying through by the common denominator. To conclude the unit, scholars review concepts by completing a set of practice problems. They simplify rational expressions by factoring and canceling like factors, performing rational expressions, and solving rational equations.
