Wouldn’t it be lovely if there was a way to capture the energy given off by a vehicle and transform it into kinetic energy to power the vehicle? That is the challenge young engineers face in an eight resource TeachEngineering: Hybrid Vehicle Design unit. Scholars are exposed to the gravitational potential, spring potential, the Carnot engine, temperature scales, and simple magnets through lessons and activities. Using this information, groups design a physical energy storage system for a new hybrid vehicle for Nissan.
