Social and  Emotional Learning

in High School:

Self-Awareness

The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) identifies self-awareness as one of five core competencies of social and emotional learning. Self-awareness includes a number of different soft skills including but not limited to the following:

  • Identifying emotions
  • Accurate self-perception
  • Recognizing strengths
  • Self-confidence
  • Self-efficacy

High school is a time of tremendous personal growth and tremendous challenges. Equipping teens with the skills they need as they develop more independence includes gaining greater self-awareness. By understanding who they are, their strenghts, their emotions, they are better able to make healthy choices.
