Social and Emotional Learning in Middle School: Responsible Decision-Making

Social and Emotional Learning

in Middle School:

Responsible Decision-Making

The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) identifies responsible decision-making as one of the five core competencies of social and emotional learning. Responsible decision making includes a number of different soft skills including but not limited to the following:

  • Identifying problems
  • Analyzing situations
  • Solving problems
  • Evaluating
  • Reflecting
  • Ethical responsibility

Making choices can be scary, especially for tweens. With so many pressures it's hard sometimes to know what to do. Practicing responsibility decision-making skills in the classroom helps middle schoolers develop the confidence they need to make wise choices.
