The Collaborative for Academic Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL) states self-management as one of five social and emotional competencies. Six skills that make up the competency are:
- Impulse control
- Stress management
- Self-discipline
- Self-motivation
- Goal setting
- Organizational skills
Middle school brings forth a momentous amount of new responsibilities. Gaining self-management skills eases stress levels and offers a clear path for successful educational outcomes. By setting goals and controlling one's self, objectives may not seem as daunting, and the drive to achieve will flourish.
