Young scholars use art to analyze a period in history. In this lesson about the effect of art on history, students study many different pieces of photography by Dorothea Lange. Young scholars will observe photographs from certain time periods and relate them back to events in history such as the Dust Bowl, the Great Depression, and World War I. Students realize that photography communicates history.
