Um may be the atomic symbol for confusion, but it won't be needed in this lesson. Scholars rotate through seven stations completing experiments, hands-on activities, writing exercises, and analysis. Stations include material on homologous structures, Darwin's finches, natural selection, animal adaptations, fossils, and comparative anatomy. This is the first lesson in a series of two.

- Offer a rubric for grading the essays assigned at the end of some of the stations
Classroom Considerations
- Groups should be at each station for 20 to 25 minutes and may need to be reminded to keep to that time frame
- Some activities are to be completed in groups and some are individual, so carefully consider where you set up each station with this in mind
- Station one requires running water
