The students will review the concepts of electromagnetic spectrum, properties of light, and the transition from ground to excited state of electrons in atoms. In laboratory groups, the students will identify the characteristic light emitted by excited metallic ions and use their results to identify an unknown metallic ion. This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science University, GEMS-U Project.
