High schoolers combine elements of music with poetry.  In this creative writing lesson plan, students examine poems from a variety of authors with varying writing styles.  High schoolers explore the different elements of poetry, including tone, rhythm, and various types of figurative language.  They work in groups to add musical elements to Mary Austin poems.  Students expand on this activity by creating their own poems using the Native American style of writing.
