Young readers develop their phonetic skills by using a nifty tool called a word pocket. They use the tool to help them organize individual letters that they have at their desks to spell entire words and to construct beginning and ending consonant blends, short vowels, long vowels, and other spelling techniques. The instructions on how to make the word pockets are in the plan and an example is shown. I like the hands-on aspect of using the word pockets in tandem with the individual letters.
