In this instructional activity, 3rd graders take on the roles of characters in a drama centered on preserving the environment. Students will play different living things that inhabit a forest. They will improvise dialogue and analyze environmental concepts. The teacher acts as a greedy developer and announces that the forest will be replaced by a factory. Students take turns defending their habitat and try to persuade the developer to leave their home as it is.
