Youngsters develop their number sense by rote counting from one to ten. Over time, they identify the numbers on their own and no longer rely on fixed recitation. Using numerical flashcards, a teacher will randomly choose numbers from the deck and ask the learner to identify the number. Sub vocal counting, hesitation, fluidity of voice, and speed of the answer will be observed. If the learner responds fluidly with 1 to 10, then the second deck of numerical cards will be introduced. Use this for a beginning-of-the-year-assessment, or during the course of the school year to address individual needs.
