Maps can be so much fun, they help you understand spatial relationships, distance between objects, and can foster direction skills. Budding cartographers with visual impairments use the Wheatley Tactile Diagramming Kit to create their own dimensional maps. First they walk about the school and discuss concepts such as corner, parallel, directions, and distances. Next, they use the Wheatley kit to make a map of their school. This is a wonderful activity that will help learners understand map functions as well as practice skill needed to improve orientation and mobility.
