What do you think will happen? Use a graphic organizer to help learners predict what will happen in a text. Consider modeling the chart using a familiar story, pretending you don't know what happens. Show scholars the book, explaining why you are making your prediction (title, pictures, etc.). The chart separates the prediction from the clues that prompted it. Conduct a think aloud as you demonstrate all of these steps, finally writing what actually happened in the book in the last section of the chart. Scholars should feel ready to do this themselves with a book of their choice. Consider partnering them to share their process afterwards.
