The star on the top of a Christmas tree can be beautiful, or it can be gold, or it can be shiny—or, in fact, it can be all three! A picture of a decorated Christmas tree encourages pupils to choose from a list of 18 adjectives to describe the tree, its decorations, and the presents underneath.

Instructional Ideas
- Project the worksheet onto the board and have one class member at a time come up and write a word from the bank, with permission to erase a peer's word if they can think of a more descriptive word
- Encourage learners to add to the word bank using a thesaurus and/or dictionary, and provide a holiday prize to the team who can come up with the most original descriptions
- See if individuals or pairs can decide which adjectives would not fit certain areas of the tree
Classroom Considerations
- Does not provide an answer key, but student responses may vary anyway
- Worksheet is in color; printing in black and white may affect the quality of the assignment as it is based on describing a vivid image
Pros
- Brings a festive touch to a grammar activity
- Encourages creativity and varying word choice
Cons
- None
