Instructional Ideas
- Print out a class list with everyone's first name, in alphabetical order
- Repeat the exercise to reflect last name graphing by changing the questions to include last before name; then, have class members compare the two graphs to one another
- Add all the letters in everyone's name to see the class total
Classroom Considerations
- Worksheet assumes there is no one in the class with a name that is longer than 11 letters; adjust the graph if necessary
Pros
- A great way to spark interest in collecting and graphing data
- Works well as a back-to-school activity, allowing pupils to get to know their classmates' names
Cons
- None
