Students create a list of characteristics for the heroine of a fairy tale and discuss ways these images affect behavior and self-esteem.  For this, The House on Mango Street gender equity lesson, students identify common characteristics of the fairy tale heroine and discuss gender bias and stereotyping.  Students use this information as a springboard for a discussion of five characters from The House on Mango Street and the effects of gender bias on their lives.
