A study of an image from The Library of Congress collection Civil War Photographs 1861-1865 launches an investigation of the connection between the Civil War and American industrialization. After analyzing “Petersburg, Va. The ‘Dictator,’” class members use the skills developed to locate and analyze other images focusing on the weaponry and other manufactured goods captured in the photos.
