Ck 12: Gene Expression and Regulatory Proteins

Curated by ACT

[Free Registration/Login may be required to access all resource tools.] Gene expression is the use of a gene whose product is necessary for that moment. Whenever a particular protein is needed, gene expression provides it. This module discusses how gene expression is regulated, identifies general mechanisms that regulate gene expression, describes the roles of regulatory proteins, transcription factors, cis-regulatory elements, and enhancers, and defines an initiation complex.
