Concord Consortium: Stem Resources: Scanning Tunneling Microscopy

A learning module with built-in interactive features where students can observe how electrons behave. Using a virtual scanning tunneling microscope (STM), they experiment with moving the electrons inside an atom around. The STM has two modes - the constant-height mode and the constant-current mode - and students will learn about the advantages and disadvantages of each. Requires free registration in order to save work, and a download of the interactive's software.
