This Conductors of Heat - Hot Spoons lesson plan also includes:
Why is the end of a spoon hot when it's not all the way in the hot water? A great question deserves a great answer, and learners with visual impairments will use their auditory and tactile senses to get that answer. A talking thermometer, steam, and three different types of spoons (conductive and nonconductive) are used to help learners conceptualize conduction and conductors. These tools will help kick off the inquiry processes and tactile exploration of a very cool (hot) scientific concept.
