Chinese legends are the focus of an interesting instructional activity that combines social studies with writing. Learners read the Chinese folk tale, "Li Chi Slays The Serpent." After the story is over, they make a list of the courageous things she did in the story, and the admirable characteristics she possesses. Then, the whole class comes up with a hero, or heroine, of their own who slays a beast that comes from their imaginations. The kids will like this instructional activity because it will allow them to come up with all sorts of monsters, and scary scenarios.
