Dangers of Labeling and Stereotyping

The content of this lesson is intended for a mature group. Participants imagine that they must decide which eight of fourteen people on a doomed cruise ship will be allowed to board the only life boat and survive. A list of passengers that describes gender, age, race, and class is used to help them decide. This thought-provoking lesson also involves a role-playing activity in which learners wear an unknown label and try to guess what it is by the way classmates treat them.
