The graphics here aren't the best, but if you are looking to get your students warmed up for a measurement lesson, this may do the trick. First, they use stars as units of measurement for three objects. They have to pay careful attention, since the objects don't start at the bottom of the star column. Next, learners label three people as either three, five, or six feet tall. Explain that although they don't have any way of knowing how tall these people are, the problem insinuates that these are their heights.
