Documenting the American South: North Carolina Emergency Relief Administration

Curated by ACT

An electronic edition of a very interesting, though dense, book written in 1936 as a record of the activies of the Emergency Relief Adminstration in North Carolina. The book begins with a look at how relief for the indigent was provided back into the 1600s. Although the book centers on North Carolina, there are many charts and maps showing information about the rest of the United States during the Great Depression. This book is packed with facts, charts, and reasons for the necessity for the Emergency Relief Appropriation Act as part of the New Deal.
