A map from 1912 of the area around Calcutta (Kolkata) from the city of Hooghly in the north to the southern reaches of the River Hooghly below Mayapur. Calcutta was at one time India's largest city and the British-made capital (Presidency City) until 1911. The map shows major roads, railways and railway stations, neighboring towns, Fort William (site of the Black Hole of Calcutta dungeon), and Bahiaghata Canal.
