In this lesson, inspired by the book Childhood and Nature: Design Principals for Educators by David Sobel, students design a playscape area on school grounds. After designing the playscape and creating a list of materials, the students visited a supply storeand built the playscape with the help of adults. In addition, students made lists and illustrations of native plants and wrote letters to various animals inviting them into the playscape.
