Fifth graders examine the elements of poetry and define poetry. In this poetry elements activity, 5th graders complete a KWL chart about poetry knowledge. Teachers read a poem, identify poetry elements in a poem, and identify some elements. Students copy the definitions into their own definitions. Students use a rubric to identify and describe the elements of poetry. Students write sentences explaining their understanding of poetry.
