A statue that actually consists of two statues; the first is a kneeling man presenting the second one, which represents Osiris, the god of the dead. The term "naophorous statue" is derived from the word "naos" which means "shrine" in Greek. This name was given to the statues of gods held in front of a functionary or a priest who may be either kneeling as in this statue, or standing.
