Eternal Egypt: Rug From Asia Minor

Curated by ACT

The design of the rug is a mihrab (prayer direction niche) with a triple arch. On top of the arch, there are several narrow horizontal bands of stylized geometrical and floral designs. Archaeologists refer this particular rug to the city of Kurdiz. This style of Kurdiz is notable for its subdued colors and tight weaving. The rug represents a stereotype of design and ornament, which is obvious in the repetition of the ornamental elements.
