Eternal Egypt: Statue of the Cat Goddess Bastet

Curated by ACT

Among the animals that the ancient Egyptians respected and venerated, was the cat. They called it Bastet and it was the patron deity of the Memphite necropolis at Saqqara. The statue of Bastet shows the goddess in characteristic Egyptian style. She sits with her forelegs upright, and her hind legs neatly folded under her.
