Eternal Egypt: Tanis

Curated by ACT

Tanis' ancient Egyptian name is Djane, its Coptic name is San, the Zoan of the Old Testament. It became the capital of the Tanite kings of the Twenty-first and Twenty-second Dynasties. From that time, its strategic position and harbor on the lake of Manzala made it the first commercial port until the Greek settlement in Rakhotis and, later, the rise of Alexandria.
