Factoring numbers helps prepare scholars for fractions and algebra, so build confidence by drilling this skill and promoting reflection in the process. Scholars start by listing factors for 18 numbers, none of which exceed 30. Next, they do the same for nine square numbers, after which they are prompted make observations about these factors. Can they identify what these numbers are called? Learners do the same for 12 prime numbers, again making observations about what they notice. Remind them to include one and the number itself in their lists.
