An activity based on the young adult novel Flipped, groups work to make the same difficult decision a character in the novel faces. Each group is given the same scenario about caring for a mentally disabled brother personally or putting him in a home, and they must come to a consensus on what to do. Because pupils face the same decision as one of the main characters in the novel, this activity helps them to explore character, conflict, and motivation. As a bonus, groups will practice problem solving and discussion skills as they work to come to a consensus.
