Galileo's Thermometer: Measuring the Density of Various Unknown Liquids

Sprouting scientists explore the concept of density by making mass and volume measurements for five different liquids. From these measurements, they calculate densities. They apply their learning to explain Galileo's thermometer works and to the problems caused for wildlife when an oil spill occurrs. This instructional activity can be used to teach density in any science course, to explore human impact on the environment in an ecology class, or to simply demonstrate physical properties in a chemistry class.
