A story about feral girls raised by werewolves will have some interesting character development! Track how the girls and their teachers act, speak, and change with a lesson focused on Karen Russell's "St. Lucy's Home for Girls Raised by Wolves." Ninth graders take notes about their reading and make claims about the characters, supported by ample and well-documented evidence from the text.

Instructional Ideas
- Incorporate the activities from this lesson into the rest of the story to facilitate longer character growth
- Encourage your class to share their drafts of writing with peers or literature circles
- Have young writers narrate a story about themselves in the same situation as the girls, either in a time when they had to adjust to new expectations or a fictional story about themselves and their friends together in a new place
Classroom Considerations

- Provides completed versions of the character tracking chart; you can find the blank versions in previous lessons
- Locate the text on page 258 of the module overview (attached)
