Students grow crystals in the lab using solutions. In this crystals lesson plan, students set up a crystal growing apparatus using a sugar solution with a thread attached to a piece of copper wire that is inserted in the solution. Students wait 3-4 days to observe their crystals. They set up the same apparatus with 5 other solutions and allow the crystals to form over 3-4 days. Students make observations and draw the shape and patterns they observe from each solution.
