"Dewy Wins" is not the only big mistake made by journalists in predicting the outcome of presidential elections. This article from the Literary Digest, October 31, 1936, predicted that Alf Landon would defeat Franklin Roosevelt by a large margin based on its polling details. Their interpretation of the polling numbers makes for interesting reading, albeit very incorrect.
