This lesson looks at the issue of slavery and the role it played in the American Revolution and the founding of the new Republic. Includes background information for the teacher. Students participate in performing a reader's theater script where they enact the events that occurred in that era, taking on the roles of the Founders and other historical persons and voicing close approximations of their actual words. This is followed with a class discussion or writing task. Student resources are included in the lesson.
