Students, who are fluent readers, practice reading with expression after listening while the teachers models good reading. They respond to teacher directions to show a specified expression. Reading with a partner, they practice adding expression to a reading passage from the book the teacher previously modeled and discuss how they felt. As an assessment, they read one minute selections as the teacher notes the amount of expression they use.
