Build reading comprehension and critical-thinking skills as learners focus on discerning fact from opinion. First, introduce the two terms as you test prior knowledge and explain their meanings (there is a scripted explanation here for your reference). Help them build personal connections with this concept by asking referential questions like the ones included here. To practice, read a book with both facts and opinions, pausing to write them down throughout. Encourage kids to raise their hands when they hear a fact or opinion, creating a list on chart paper.
