A new baby means a lot of changes for Peter! Ezra Jack Keats presents this common childhood experience in his story Peter's Chair, the context of a detailed vocabulary study. Before you read, introduce the three new words scholars will hear in the text: fussing, mutter, and rascal. Do they know these already? Have them raise their hands when they hear one in the book, and listen for context clues. Each word has a set of questions to strengthen comprehension and promote connection to familiar concepts. To use more words, simply apply this strategy to any other in-text vocabulary you find.
