Canada's first Prime Minister in 1867 was John Alexander MacDonald (1815-1891). Although many Canadians know his name, this website from the National Library & Archives provides Quick facts, Biography, Anecdote and Bibliography sections that reveal his past and contributions to Canadian history. There are also three speeches he made, and links to further articles in the NLC's First Among Equals website.
