High schoolers in chemistry or health courses look at the material safety data sheet (MSDS) and periodic table of elements to gather information about mercury and lead, two toxic materials that have been found in food products. They read an article about each. You will need to search for the articles online since the links do not take you to them. After the lesson, pair up learners to write a skit in which one is a doctor and the other is a patient who may be suffering symptoms of exposure. The articles make for fascinating material to help meet Common Core State Standards for scientific literacy.
