Time for Kids: Butterflies is used to model the process of determining if a text is based on fact or opinion. Children are taught how to skim for key words, and use headings or chapter names to locate proof of whether or not what they are reading is a fact or opinion. For independent practice they will find four facts in a text, write an opinion statements based on the reading, then switch papers with a peer to see if they can determine if their partner has written a fact or an opinion.
