A coin toss is a simple and fun way to help youngsters discovery probability. Preferably in partners, they first predict what would happen if they tossed two coins 48 times. How often would two heads show up? Two tails? How about one of each? Pairs then conduct this experiment themselves (consider doing it on the floor to cut down on noise), tallying the results. They create a bar graph of the data, referencing an example. Which result happened most often? They are challenged to explain why this was. Guide them in understanding the concept of possible outcomes, probability, and odds.
