Hans Sloane, born in 1660, was one of the first Europeans to promote the use of chocolate as a health remedy. A naturalist and a physician, he traveled widely, collecting medicinal plant specimens. His time in Jamaica, where he was introduced to chocolate beverages, is highlighted in this exhibit.
