Third graders learn about the value of companionship, the joy of finding friends in unexpected places, and the significance of building a community of different perspectives. They explore how authors develop the reader's understanding of these ideas through word choice and character actions. While reading literary and nonfiction texts, 3rd graders also learn about the role of dialogue in text and apply this learning to their own practices as writers.
