- Provide to learners that need additional help developing specific math skills
- Supplement math lessons by assigning corresponding Mathmateer missions
Classroom Considerations
Although the math topics covered in this resource are applicable to all elementary school students, younger children will have difficulty building and launching rockets. Consider using a single-player account for primary grade classrooms, creating one rocket for all learners to use when playing the game. This helps reduce any potential frustration and allow kids to focus on improving their math skills.
Mathmateer does provide access to the App Store with minimal security. Be sure young learners are clear that they are not to use this feature or download any additional applications.
Pros
- Allows five different player accounts per tablet or mobile device
- Ability to create and modify rockets engages young learners in practicing math skills
- A scratch pad is provided to work out problems while answering questions to earn money
Cons
- Does not include demonstrations or support for completing missions
- Successfully launching a rocket requires some trial and error
