Students investigate the components of a cell membrane. For this cell membrane lesson plan, students build a cell membrane model using toothpicks and candy to represent the parts of the membrane including the phospholipid bilayer and the integral proteins. The class discusses the structures and functions of the cell membrane and the components of the cell membrane. Students design their own unique cell membrane to build with materials brought from home for the next class.
